About

The Labrador West Minor Hockey Association was formed in 1990 when the neighboring towns of Labrador City and Wabush combined their individual associations to form a single entity. Since that time the association has played under a single banner out of two arenas, one in each town. In the rafters of these two arenas hang the evidence of our accomplishments as individual associations as well as that of our efforts as one association.

Our greatest accomplishment, however, has been in keeping Minor Hockey thriving in spite of the availability to our kids of so many other leisure activities.

All of our traveling teams, from Atom to Midget play under one name,   Lakers!

The Lakers name comes from the original name of the Town of Labrador City (Carol Lake).

STOP Program

The Labrador West Minor Hockey association is pleased to use the S.T.O.P.Stop Program (Safety Towards Other Players) program. This program is geared toward the reduction or elimination of serious injuries resulting in checking from behind.

Each player from Novice to Midget, as well as the Triple A Huskies, wear the STOP patch on the back of their jersey. The patch is intended to be a visual cue for the opposing player who may be intent on checking from behind. As well, STOP signs are placed at other areas around our arenas to promote the program.
